Volunteer for Earth Day

by Kari Gray
s this tthe year for you to get involved with San Diego Earth Day? If it is, we can show you how to make a difference while celebrating the 25th anniversary of Earth Day.
San Diego Earth Day is a non-profit organization dedicated to a clean, healthy, prosperous future. With just one full-time employee (that's me), we depend entirely on volunteers - just like you - who contribute their time throughout the year.
We specialize in producing events designed to educate and inform the public about a broad range of environmental issues and to support other non-profit environmental organizations. Our EarthFair in Balboa Park is the largest free environmental fair in the West, produced entirely by volunteers. We also present other events and projects throughout the year, including the Youth Earth Savers Festival in October, natural food events, and The Environment and You lecture series.
The best way to learn what we're up to and how you can participate is to attend one of our volunteer introduction meetings. Our next meeting is:
Wednesday, April 12 · 7pm
Reuben H Fleet Space Theater
Balboa Park
We'll show you the cool Earth Day slide show and tell you about our current projects. Here are a few: For more information about any of the above projects, or to request an EarthFair Exhibitor Application, call (619) 496-6666. Start today to make every day Earth Day!

Avoid parking hassles - use the EarthFair Shuttle

or many, the fun and excitement of attending the EarthFair is offset by the bother and frustration of fighting traffic while finding a place to park.
Sound familiar? Why not try the simple alternative: take the EarthFair Shuttle. San Diego Earth Day has secured a large parking lot in Florida Canyon and will be running shuttles to and from Balboa Park every 5 - 10 minutes. Simply drive up Park Blvd. from the Hwy 5 freeway exits and follow the signs. The shuttles will run from 9am to 6pm. Best of all, parking and shuttle service are free!
This year, in keeping with the spirit of Earth Day, the shuttle busses will all be powered by non-polluting compressed natural gas. The shuttle busses are being donated by San Diego Transit, Cloud 9 Shuttle Service and the North County Transit District.
The parking lot will be staffed by Ace Parking, and on-site guards will help ensure the security of the parked vehicles.
